Gurnet Rock Drowned Forest (paraphrased from the poster) - The inerlocking root system and lower stump sections of four red cedar trees were located in 30 feet of seawater by Gurnet Rock in southeast Bermuda. The roots and stumps are remnants of a cedar forest that grew in the area around 5290 BCE when the sea level was at least 30 feet lower than when it was in 2000. The investigation of the drowned forest is part of the Bermuda Sea Level Study conducted by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI), the Geological Survey of Canada and the New England Aquarium. Bermuda Seal Level Project Chief Scientists are Teddy Tucker and Steve Blasco.
